You moved into a house with a pre-installed security system
Sometimes when you buy a house, a security system is already installed. All the components function well, are installed in the best places, and are ready to go. In this case, you might find that you have to call and start a new monitoring contract. A Vivint expert will still come to your home to ensure there are no usability problems, and they could offer options on an upgrade or two. It's a preliminary trip, and you can have your alarm monitoring set up without worrying about any new components -- unless you get some new devices.
The outgoing owners can transfer an existing Vivint contract to your family for a small set-up fee to make your life simpler. If the owners downsize to an apartment complex or retirement community, turning over the security contract might be a condition of the sale.
You need to move and take your old equipment with you
You might want to take your old Vivint system with you to a new place when you move. That’s pretty simple to accomplish, as most components are portable. You can uninstall each alarm or camera yourself or use a professional installer to take down your devices. Then our installers will put in the same devices -- and any additions you need to have -- in your new place. Your home security contract will keep the same.
